Please read all application requirements thoroughly before applying for aid. A complete file is considered for review only after all listed application materials are accurately completed. - Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid at: studentaid.gov with school code E00197.
- Complete the GW MD Program Financial Aid Request Form and submit it as a PDF - see forms page.
Please allow 5-10 business days for review of your completed applciation. An aid offer email will be sent to your GWU email address after these materials are reviewed, beginning as early as March each year and contining until the last day to apply.
Last Day to Apply for Federal Student Loans. Students should apply for funds at least four (4) weeks prior to the end the academic year.
Once You Have Received Your Financial Aid Offer, Accept Your Financial Aid Offer:
Please accept aid a few weeks prior to the start of the term to ensure all requirements are compete and aid is disbured on time.

If you accept any Federal Direct Loans, additional requirements will appear at the bottom left of the screen. Click on any one, you will be taken to the student loans website where you can "Sign Master Promissory Note", and complete your loan "Entrance Counseling" requirements. You will be required to enter your FSA ID and Password to "Sign In" to this site. You may also visit studentaid.gov to complete these requirements.
Please note that financial aid offers may be modified based upon new information related to your financial circumstances and your financial need, as well as changes in enrollment status and receipt of outside scholarships and/or loans.
Disbursement of Accepted Funds:
Financial aid accepted funds are disbursed to your GW student account at the beginning of each semester. If the awards you have accepted exceed the amount owed on the GW Student Account eBill system, you will receive a refund to assist with external educational expenses included in your cost of attendance. Students should consider their rights with regard to how GW can apply their federal student loan funds to their student accounts. These include the right to utilize federal student loan funds to pay for educationally related expenses (e.g. health insurance, library charges, parking fees, etc), using federal student loans to pay a previous academic year's charges of up to $200, and other rights. These options are the purview of the Student Account Office and questions about student authorizations should be directed to SAO@gwu.edu. You should access and set up to receive an e-refund (direct deposit to your bank account). Please take the time to review the ebill system, enter your bank account information, and sign up.

Required One-on-One Counseling:
All incoming students who will receive financial aid are required to attend a one-on-one counseling session with a financial aid counselor. Incoming students may schedule a meeting, generally lasting 30 minutes, between the second week of July and the last day of classes in the fall semester of their first year. Students should make an appointment by contacting the Office of Financial Aid at medfinan@gwu.edu or 202-994-2960.

- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid at: studentaid.gov. You, your spouse (if married), and your parents (natural or adoptive) must complete the 2023-2024 FAFSA using school code E00197.
- Complete the GW MD Program Financial Aid Request Form and the GW MD Application for Need-Based Aid including your parents’ information -see forms page.
- If your parents are divorced, the custodial parent will complete the FAFSA and the other will complete a PDF paper copy of the FAFSA The parent who completes the paper FAFSA will submit the Non-Custodial Parent Need-Based Aid Application- see Forms page.
- You, your spouse (if married), and your parents must submit copies of all 2021 IRS signed tax returns, all tax schedules and W-2s (or 1099s). If you or your parents did not file a tax return for the 2021 tax year, please submit the appropriate Statement of Non-Tax Filing form- see Forms page.
- If you report siblings enrolled in college at least half-time in the fall of 2023, you must submit the Sibling Enrollment Verification Form(s) to our office, after the fall term starts, no later than October 1, 2023. Failure to do so will result in the recalculation of your need-based aid offer.
- All GW MD Program forms, signed tax forms and documents required by the MD Program Office of Financial Aid must be submitted to medfinan@gwu.edu in password protected PDF format, with the password emailed separately.

You May Check the GWeb System for the Status of Submitted Documents. Please login to GWeb, select the Financial Aid Menu, then select "My Eligibility," and "Student Requirements." Be sure to select the 2023-2024 Aid Year. Note: if you are a newly admitted MS1 student, your GWeb User ID is your GWID number (set forth above) and your temporary PIN is your birthdate in the form of MM/DD/YY. For example, if your birthdate is April 15, 1988, your temporary PIN is 041588. Once you login, you will be prompted to choose your own PIN. Please be sure to choose a PIN you will remember, as you will use GWeb for many purposes during your time at GW SMHS. It may take up to 10 business days for documents to be posted to the GWeb system. Applicants who have not been admitted will not be able to review information on the GWeb system.
Last Day to Apply for Federal Student Loans. Students should apply for funds at least four (4) weeks prior to the end of a semester if funds are required during that time. Except emergency loans, the MD Program Office of Financial Aid cannot originate any federal student loans or disburse any institutional aid during a break in enrollment (e.g., vacation or leave of absence). You may request federal aid during these breaks, but the aid will be associated with a subsequent semester and the school may not originate or disburse any federal aid until the next enrollment period begins.

Students must apply for financial aid prior to each academic year by renewing the FAFSA and submitting appropriate application materials which are subject to change, please review this page every year for changes to the application process.
We recommend students apply well in advance of your billing due dates to avoid delays in your financial aid disbursements and unnecessary late fees. Priority deadlines are to ensure aid is processed before the start of the term. All applications submitted after the deadline are still considered and processed in the order received, but may not be ready for disbursement by the start of the term.
Financial Aid Disbursements begin each semester as follows:
MD Year 1/ MD Year 2 - Fall, August 4th and Spring, January 1st
MD Year 3/ MD Year 4 - Fall, July 1st and Spring, January 1st
